YouTube Mobile Live Streaming

In YouTube news, they have started rolling out YouTube Mobile Live Streaming.

Why YouTube Mobile Live Streaming Matters

YouTube has been working hard to roll out live streaming to everyone.

Now, if you have over 10,000 subscribers, you will have the YouTube live streaming feature.

Here is what YouTube mobile live streaming looks like.

YouTube mobile live streaming

To start streaming, simply launch the YouTube app and hit capture at the bottom.

You will then be live on YouTube!

To help you generate revenue from your live streams, YouTube is also rolling out Super Chat.

Super Chat is monetization tool.

"Just point Lens at a pair of shoes, then tap to see related styles or even ideas for what else to wear them with. Or try it on a table to find similar designs, and even other furniture from the same era. You can also use Lens with food. Just point it at broccoli or a pomegranate to see what recipes come up. Patterns and colors can also lead you in fun, interesting or even just plain weird new directions."

While it's still in beta, today, if you're on Pinterest, you can use "instant ideas."

If you notice something that looks interesting in a pin, tap on the circle that appears.

This will unlock related ideas.

Here is an example of YouTube Super Chat in action.

While YouTube is adding Super Chat to monetize live streaming, they are getting rid of Fan Funding.

Instagram Testing Multi-Photo Albums

Instagram multi-photo album posts

In Instagram news, they are testing multi-photo album posts.

Why Instagram Multi-Photo Albums Matter

Right now, only advertisers have the ability to publish several photos to a single Instagram post.

To view the photos, users would swipe horizontally across a photo.

You can include up to 10 images or videos in a post.

When applying Instagram filters, you can apply separate ones to each piece of content.

Overall, this reminds us a lot of Facebook carousel ads.

We're still a bit skeptical that adding multi-photo albums to Instagram won't detract from the simplicity that Instagram has offered.

You can read more about multi-photo albums here.

Pinterest Lens App, A Visual Discovery Tool

In Pinterest news, they have launched a visual discovery tool called Lens.

Here is a short video about Pinterest Lens.

Why the Pinterest Lens Visual Discovery Tool Matters

Where Shazam is a music discovery tool, Pinterest Lens is a visual discovery tool.

With Pinterest Lens, "it lets you use the camera in your Pinterest app to discover ideas inspired by objects you see out in the real world."

This is how Pinterest's visual discovery tool works.

Here is what Pinterest instant ideas looks like in the app.

In addition to Pinterest Lens, they are also rolling out shop the look.

With shop the look, "you can track down and even buy products you see inside fashion and home decor Pins. Just tap the circle on each item to find the styles you're looking for. You can even see what other people have paired it with for more ideas on how to wear it."

This is what that looks like.

Pinterest - shop the look

Right now, Pinterest's shop the look feature is available for iOS and Android.

Pinterest Lens will be rolling out in the coming weeks.

Facebook Friends Day

Facebook friends day

In Facebook news, they are celebrating Facebook friends day.

Here is a short video about Facebook friends day.

Why Facebook Friends Day Matters

Facebook is a tool that helps us stay connected with friends, colleagues from work as well as business associates.

To remind you about your friendships, Facebook launched Facebook friends day.

This includes sharing videos depicting people you are friends with.

In addition, they have also rolled out friendship-themed GIFs inside of Facebook Messenger.

Whether you need someone to help you get through a tough situation or you met a friend through your business that changed your life, be sure you give back and celebrate friends day with the people who have had a profound impact on shaping who you are.

You can read the Facebook friends day announcement here.

Hootsuite Buys AdEspresso

Another important pieces of social media news this week was that Hootsuite purchased AdEspresso.

Why Hootsuite Acquiring AdEspresso Matters

This is big news because Hootsuite was preciously know for being just a social media dashboard tool.

By acquiring AdEspresso, Hootsuite can now add Facebook Ads to their mix of products.

If you're a marketer, you're probably already using Hootsuite to manage your social media channels (it does a great job for following Twitter streams and lists and for reminding you to post to Instagram too).

With Hootsuite adding Facebook Ads functionality, it will be easier for you to create, analyze and optimize Facebook and Instagram ads for your own business or for clients from one tool.

Congratulations to the AdEspresso team and good luck to Hootsuite as they continue to evolve from being a social media dashboard tool.

You can read the announcement from Hootsuite here.

Periscope CEO Running Twitter Live Video Products

Also in Twitter news, the Periscope CEO is running Twitter's live video products.

Why the Periscope CEO Running Twitter Live Video Products Matters

Kayvon Beykpour is pulling a Jack Dorsey and running Periscope, while overseeing "all products and engineering behind Twitter's live video efforts, like its NFL livestreams."

This makes a lot of sense to have Beykpour oversee this area.

"Twitter still sees live video as a major part of its future, and wants to put a well-respected product exec in charge of the efforts. "

At the same time, if Twitter and Periscope want to compete with Facebook Live video, they need someone who also has their finger on the pulse.

With Beykpour heading up Periscope, this shows that Twitter is moving in the right direction to win users back.

As a business owner, if you are still on the fence about using Periscope in your marketing, because you don't know if Twitter is going to be around for long, this is a a good sign that you can take that next step and begin to develop your presence on this channel.

Tools

In addition to sharing the latest in social media news from this past week, we also highlighted some great tools and apps to check out.

Mavis

Mavis professional filmmaker - iOS

The first tool we have for you this week is called Mavis (iOS).

More and more marketers are using their mobile device to create video content.

While your phone or tablet has a very good camera, you don't get a lot of controls to improve photos or videos that are too dark.

With Mavis, you get a professional filmmaking camera as well as a production tool to give you the tools to shoot better quality photos and videos.

For example, if your video is too dark, you can see exposure levels and make the adjustments.

You can also use Mavis to ensure you get quality audio when you are recording your videos.

Mavis also features a host of different sharing options as well. This way your videos don't just stay on your camera roll and instead, get shared on your social media channels, in blog posts and more.

You can download the Mavis professional filmmaking camera app below.

Drip From LeadPages

Drip from LeadPages

The next tool we wanted to share with you is called Drip (web).

Do you find you repeat a lot of tasks?

For example, when someone signs up through your Facebook Lead Ads, you then export them into a CSV file and import them into your email marketing service.

This process can get old.

Fortunately, with Drip from Leadpages, you can automate this process and more.

Instead of repeating this task, in Drip, you set up a workflow so that when someone signs up through your Facebook lead ads, Drip checks and moves these people into your email provider.

This is just one of many options to save you time and automate parts of your business.

You can join Drip from Leadpages for free from the link below.

PaperSpan is an app that helps you save blog posts and more from your favorite websites to read later on.

Where it differs from Pocket is that you can read or listen to the articles that you've saved for later.

You can download PaperSpan for free from the link below.
